Since 1998, Genius crash cart by CFS Italia has been active in ICUs and emergency wards all over the world. We compared the first model produced with the current model. The result? A story of evolution that also speaks of consistency.

Opening a Genius trolley from 1998 and one from 2026 is a revealing exercise. The construction logic is the same: sturdy structure, modular drawers, defibrillator support, IV pole, oxygen tank holder on the back, and a knee-operated waste bin. The positioning of the accessories, the configurations, the operating philosophy: everything remains unchanged. It’s not a question of design inertia, it is an awareness developed in the field: certain choices work, and in the world of emergency care, you don’t change what works without a specific reason.
The knee-operated waste bin is the most emblematic example. It was already present on the first Genius in 1998, designed to free the operator’s hands at the most critical moment. It’s still there, in the same position, with the same logic. A plus that CFS Italia introduced before it became an industry standard. Today, it boasts a further evolution: a fixed accessory bar allows the bin to be easily removed for cleaning and sanitizing.
The heart of the Genius crash cart has remained unchanged because it responds to a need that does not change: when seconds are crucial, the operator cannot afford uncertainties.
Even a quick glance at the two models side by side leaves no doubt: today’s Genius is a product that has evolved in terms of materials, ergonomic details, and technical solutions.
The IV pole has been completely redesigned: a more ergonomic grip, now with 4 hooks instead of 2, allows for simultaneous handling of multiple IV bags without compromising patient access. The push handle is now made of aluminum, making it more durable and lighter, with an ergonomic profile designed to reduce strain even in the most crowded corridors. It also features a clever detail: quick screw assembly allows replacement without disassembling the entire structure of the cart. The corners of the push handle are reinforced with moulded ABS, protecting both the cart and the walls of the facility. This complements the protective function of the new perimeter bumpers, which also incorporate an anti-tip function, increasing stability during rapid maneuvers.
The drawers have benefited from next-generation telescopic slides with 110% opening and soft-close: each drawer slides smoothly, extends fully to access even the contents at the back, and closes without slamming. The drawer handles are now made of aluminum, lighter and more ergonomic than the previous steel handles, for quicker and more intuitive use, even with gloves: a quality that is not optional in an intensive care environment. The CPR backboard holder is now equipped with a dedicated locking system, which keeps the board securely in place during transport and allows for quick extraction when needed. On the back, the cylinder holder has been redesigned with an adjustable strap that ensures compatibility with various oxygen cylinder models, eliminating the need for adapters or improvised solutions.
The surfaces are designed for systematic disinfection, with clean geometries and rounded corners that leave no hard-to-reach areas.

Since 1998, Genius emergency trolley has been used in intensive care units, emergency rooms, and hospital departments throughout Italy and around the world. It has undergone several changes (materials, ergonomics, technologies), but it has never changed its mind about what’s important: being reliable, intuitive, and ready when every second counts.
This is why Genius remains a leader in the hospital cart industry: not because it has remained the same, but because it has evolved without losing its identity.
